Chris Rabet's Picture Gallery.

Chris contacted me some years ago when I first built the site. He always meant to send me his photos, but has only just got around to sending them now. These photos are a welcome addition to the picture gallery. Chris remembers leaving Southampton in early April 1972 and arriving in Melbourne on the 7th of May, `72. The ship sailed via Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands, then onto Cape Town, South Africa. The first port of call in Australia was Freemantle, Western Australia. He enjoyed the trip immensely and recalls crossing the Bay of Biscay in a bad storm, "there were only a few passengers about that day!" he remarked. Chris stayed in Australia for just over 6 years, then returned home to Jersey in the Channel Islands where he has lived ever since.

*My brother Ray was on the ship at the time and is in photos: "rabet8 and "rabet9 (girl is sat on his lap in "rabet9" - Ray has a light blue jacket on).

Due to a huge volume of questions I am asked, for which often I do not have the information, I have decided to ask that only ex-crew actually write to me please.

I am delighted with everyones contributions, and will occasionally update the Australis web site, using photos/stories etc sent to me. However I cannot answer any more questions.

Thankyou for your sustained interest in the SS Australis Homepage.

Please e-mail me on this link: Contact.
