Bernie Carvell's Picture Gallery.
Bernie worked in the gift shops on both the Ellinis and the Australis from 1972 until `77, and became quite the popular lad during his time with the company. The shop managers on the Ellinis at the time were Alan Burchall and Doug Bowen, and on the Australis it was Tom Thomas. On his first trip he sailed to Australia and then on to the Far East, from day one he knew that was the life for him - getting paid to see the world.
During his time on board he worked with a great bunch of guys in the shops including Richard, Billy Livings, and Johnny Grant. Then there was Billy and Charles who worked in the ladies hairdressers. Bernie also remembers some stewardesses and cashiers, including Linda, Ruth, Cheri, Dawn and Katie. He fondly recalls "the love of his life" Vicky (who taught him where he was going wrong!!!). Grateful thanks are sent to those Greek Officers, Engineers and below deck crew who also contributed to make life on board the Ellinis one long happy party. Last but not least Bernie wishes to mention all those BUTCH!! Master at Arms, especially Mr. Butch himself... Jimmy Galloway! He would like to thank Jimmy for putting him to bed on many a night (interpret that how you wish!!). Bernie has great regrets as to how this has all ended, and sends a great thankyou to everyone he met.

Due to a huge volume of questions I am asked, for which often I do not have the information, I have decided to ask that only ex-crew actually write to me please.
I am delighted with everyones contributions, and will occasionally update the Australis web site, using photos/stories etc sent to me. However I cannot answer any more questions.
Thankyou for your sustained interest in the SS Australis Homepage.
