The Call Center Photo Album.
Over the past few months I have been assisting the exhibition
organisers for the new Royal Caribbean International\Celebrity Cruises Customer Call Center
in Springfield, Oregon in the USA. I was very pleased when a contact of mine said he lived nearby
and would go down and have a look at it and take some photos for me.
The Celebrity\RCCL exhibit is situated in the same building as the call center.
The Exhibit goes right through their history, from the beginning of Chandris Lines to the amalgamation of these two companies.
It's not open to members of the public but mainly for the staff and visiting clients, and forms an enduring archive of their joint
history.
The building was opened in early 2006, RCCL went out of their way to conduct public tours of the building to promote
good will as a new neighbour in town, not to mention their pride of the new facility. I would NOT recommend just dropping in unannounced, however they do seem
to be willing to accommodate visitors to see the displays if a person calls in advance. If you do visit the complex it would be nice if afterwards you wrote a
thank you note to the person responsible for accommodating your request. That sort of courtesy always creates a positive feeling, and is just a nice thing to do.
The approximate location of the building is just northeast of the intersection of Interstate highway I-5 and Beltline Highway.
The town of Springfield is just east of the town of Eugene. Eugene is home to the University of Oregon, and the Oregon Ducks football team. Eugene/Springfield
is located approximately 300 miles (482km) south of Seattle.
Thanks to Kevin McClintic, who was looking for information on the West Point after he found out his Dad had traveled on her during WWII, when she was
used as a troop ship. His Dad told him about eating in shifts and also remarked on how new the ship
was at the time. He would have been in his early 20's then.
Below is a link through to a small map of the general location:
Here is a quick rundown of the contents of all the photos:

Due to a huge volume of questions I am asked, for which often I do not have the information, I have decided to ask that only ex-crew actually write to me please.
I am delighted with everyones contributions, and will occasionally update the Australis web site, using photos/stories etc sent to me. However I cannot answer any more questions.
Thankyou for your sustained interest in the SS Australis Homepage.
