Roy Blinston's Picture Gallery Part One
Roy Blinston was the Ship’s Typesetter (Printing) from August to November 1973.
He was 23 years old at the time and was about to get married and
emigrate to Australia (with his Australian fiancee). Roy wasn't quite sure on the idea of going to
Australia, and thought if he worked on a ship for a few months, then he could go there and have a look for nothing.
In the end Roy thought Australia looked really good and eventually emigrated to Canberra, Australia in 1974. He has lived there ever since,
running his own Graphic Design and Digital Photography business.
His experience on the Australis was nothing like he expected it to be. Roy met some wonderful people
and had the best time of his life, he looks back on his 4 months at sea with very fond memories.
A few days ago Roy decided to check out the internet (just to see if there was anything listed
for the Australis). He was pleasantly surprised to find many photos and a mini network of like
minded people. His heart went a flutter when he saw pictures on the Internet of the Australis deteriorating badly.
The sea will soon reclaim her forever. It was like an old friend had died, such was Roy's emotion viewing
the pictures

Welcome all visitors to the S.S. Australis Website, which has now been online since 1998!
I will continue to update the site if I receive a new story, or if you have interesting photos taken on the ship during your voyage
on either the southbound, northbound, or on one of the South Pacific cruises. We used to do those trips several times a year
from Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland (New Zealand).
I am deeply moved by the interest and wonderful contributions from the numerous passengers and crew over many years.
You can send an e-mail to me on the link below:
A HUGE THANK YOU
Warm Regards
Ken
